Preparing Your RV for an Okanagan Summer Road Trip

Summer is the busiest travel season in the Okanagan, and it's also the hardest on an RV — long highway hours, desert heat, and full loads all add up. A short pre-trip inspection catches most of the problems that turn into roadside breakdowns.

Tires and Brakes

Check tire pressure cold, before driving, and inspect for cracking or uneven wear — heat and UV exposure age RV tires faster than you'd expect, even ones with plenty of tread left. Listen for grinding or pulsing when braking, and have pads and drums inspected if it's been more than a year.

Fluids and Battery

• Engine oil, coolant, and brake fluid levels
• Battery terminals — clean and free of corrosion
• Propane and water tank levels before departure
• Generator oil, if equipped

Before You Leave the Driveway

Test all running lights and signals, confirm the awning and slide-outs latch securely, and walk the roof for loose sealant if it's been a while since the last inspection. Fifteen minutes now is a lot cheaper than a tow from the highway.
